Hello there, Thank you for your interest in finding out more about me. I am Ildiko Davis and I love being able to help people to beat stress and anxiety! These issues become a modern day epidemic in our fast and overstimulating world and I am dedicated to create a safe and calm environment for you where you can find your ways to fight back. I hope the details about me will be useful for you in deciding whether I could be the counsellor you are looking for. Feel free to give me a call with any other questions. Best wishes, |
Professional Memberships:
I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapy (MBACP). This means that I have a BACP accredited training and signed up to work in accordance to the Ethical Framework of the BACP. In practice, this stands for being committed to follow professional and ethical guidelines to make sure that my work with you is safe, respectful and of a high professional standard. My counselling work is also fully insured. I am also a member of Sussex Counselling and a CCC registered counsellor. These organisations promote talking therapies and assists the public in finding qualified counsellors and psychotherapists.
Qualifications and Education:
I have a BACP accredited Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling from CPPD in London. I also have additional specialist training to work with people affected by issues that require extra care and understanding (highly sensitive people (HSP), addictions, sexual abuse, self-harm, suicidal thoughts). I have a real passion for learning and I am dedicated to continually increase my knowledge and skills by further training, regular supervision and self-directed learning.
In addition to my counselling training, I also have a degree in Architecture, and maintain a keen interest about how our natural and built environment influences our sense of emotional and psychological well-being.
Work Experience:
I have worked as an Associate Counsellor at the University of Greenwich for two years, where I have gained good experience of working with young and mature students in a time-limited setting (6-8 sessions). I also counselled students for a year at the University of Sussex in similar settings.
I supported women who experienced sexual abuse or violence at Survivors' Network and also worked as a Volunteer Counsellor at Haringey Women’s Forum, where my clients were women affected mainly by difficulties in their relationships and family.
As a Substance Misuse Counsellor at the Eban Project of Blenheim CDP and at CRI, I also have gained valuable experience in assisting people who were struggling with drug or alcohol dependency.
I have started working with private clients in 2006, initially in London and since 2008 in Brighton.
Other Relevant Experiences:
In my work as a counsellor, I draw understanding from my own life experiences, as well. I moved to England nearly two decades ago from Hungary, a culturally and politically very different background. This experience helped me to develop awareness of the richness and variety of values and traditions people can have and also taught me how to interact sensitively across diverse cultures, lifestyles and nationalities. My respect and tolerance for differences of opinion and values is an important aid in my counselling work, to establish trust and good working relationships with people from all walks of life.
I also have experience of using counselling to address difficulties in my own life. Although this experience can be different to everyone, I personally have gained much relief from being able to talking over my problems with a skilled and objective listener in a safe and confidential environment. Taking time to reflect on my issues in a supportive environment also helped me to achieve many positive changes in myself and in my life. My own positive experience of counselling has inspired me to become a counsellor, as I would like to assist others to find relief and better ways of coping in life, just as it was possible for me. As a highly sensitive person myself, I am also dedicated to assist other HSPs on their journey to overcome the difficulties this temperament present when living in a world designed for the non-sensitive majority and to create the life they desire building on their strength.
